Tembo Max is a drop-in replacement for any OpenAI or Anthropic compatible endpoint.
Tembo Max provides a single API endpoint (proxy.tembo.io) that you point your agent CLIs and SDKs toward. We then route those requests to your configured providers (Claude, OpenAI, etc.) while handling authentication and logging. If Anthropic has an outage, your request automatically routes to an equivalent model on another provider. If one cloud region goes down, traffic shifts seamlessly to another.
Your Tembo Credits work everywhere you code: in your repo with background agents, and locally with Claude Code and OpenCode. Whether you're letting Tembo agents autonomously handle background work or using Claude Code and OpenCode for local development, you're drawing from the same credit pool.

Currently, we support automatic failover to Bedrock or Vertex AI (Open-source models are hosted via Cerebras). We are working on adding support for other cloud providers to ensure you always have a fallback option.
No, Tembo Max has its own API keys that are used to proxy the requests to the providers.
You could technically use Tembo Max with anything, even non coding agents. However, its designed specifically for coding agents and is optimized for that use case.
